Why I created this resource

This resource is created to support anyone who has young people in their life (or who works with those that do) - whether you’re a parent, carer, guardian, sibling, or extended family member; volunteer, health practitioner, teacher, babysitter, hairdresser, or family friend; someone who’s are multiple of these at once; and/and more!

In a world rife with diet culture and appearance pressures, it aims to help keep young people in folks lives safer from disordered eating and body image concerns, and to support them in having a more positive relationship with food, nourishment, movement, & body.

What does this resource cover?

Written in an affirming, accessible, and compassionate way, it runs through key pointers regarding:

  • Building safety, self-identity, and ensuring that needs are met

  • Language/conversations to avoid, and what to say instead)

  • Normalisation of diversity, and the rejection of harmful messages

  • Prompts to help ensure we model safer, more positive ways of engaging with food and body (practicing what we preach)
